08 Dec Six Steps To Close the Gender Pay Gap announced at LEAD UK Meeting
This week LEAD UK Chapter held its Christmas Networking event at the prestigious Ernst Young (EY) Offices at 1 More Place, just a stone’s throw from the stunning Tower of London.
More than 50 men and women attended to enjoy presentations on ‘Engaging Men in Gender Diversity’ and ‘Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives’ from guest speakers Elaine Parr from Ernst Young and Tracey Marsden from CMS – a recruitment law firm.
The economic gender pay gap will now take 217 years to close, according to Elaine, up from 170 in the past year. “It is a step back from achieving equality, that hurts all of us”, she said, identifying six actionable steps for all businesses, summarised below.
LEAD UK Chairperson Sue Knowles of Costco UK announced that the UK Chapter has hit a record of 437 members this year with a new target of 500 for next year. Clare Bocking of Immediate Impact delivered a highly engaging micro-workshop, sharing mental techniques to help confidence to thrive under challenging circumstances.
Delegates were treated to a festive goody bag including a diversity ’tool-kit’, must-read business book ‘Strategize to Win’ by Carla Harris and a calendar of key networking events to attend in 2018.
In the true nature of networking, ample time was given to coffee breaks, drinks and discussion.
The LEAD UK Chapter Committee would like to extend thanks to EY, LEAD’s Foundation Partner, for hosting the event.
Elaine’s Six Actionable Steps for businesses to close the gender gap are as follows:
- Enable men to play a greater role in family life
- Transform the 24/7 working culture of the retail industry
- Create an inclusive leadership
- Makes sure there is a strong pipeline of female talent
- Challenge unconscious bias
- Pay women equally to reflect their equal value
