19 Apr JJ Food Service completes Sidcup solar panels
National wholesaler JJ Food Service has completed the installation of 1000 solar panels on the roof of the Sidcup branch, which will be used to generate an estimated 225,000kWh annually.
A total of 960 panels have already been installed on the roof of the Enfield branch, which generates an estimated 219,000 kWh annually and accounts for 14% of the total energy used by the site.
JJ has invested a total of £500K into solar panels to cover the Enfield and Sidcup branches, and there are plans to roll the solar panels out cross all branches in future.
Further efforts are currently underway to promote sustainable practices with the introduction of a telematics system to monitor vehicle idling and driver behaviour.
“An idling engine can consume huge amounts of fuel”, said JJ’s Enfield branch manager Sedat Kaan Hendekli. “With a fleet of 115 vehicles, it soon adds up.”
The system is being trialled with five vehicles with plans to roll it out across the entire fleet. “With the right systems in place, we aim to reduce our fuel consumption by 12% a year,” added Sedat.
